This technology enables an all-around approach to sustainability, benefiting both the environment and business profitability. In a circular economy, the value of products and materials is maintained as long as possible. Resources used and waste are minimised, and when a product reaches the end of its life cycle, it is modified so that it can be used again, creating new value. This brings with it increasing commercial benefits.

The “3 Rs” of additive manufacturing

Reduce

Additive manufacturing allows for efficient use of resources and avoids the incumbent expenses of traditional manufacturing by reducing energy costs and special waste typically produced by foundries and traditional production lines.

By 3D printing parts, greener components can be produced significantly reducing the weight and assembly steps required to manufacture the finished product.

Remanufacturing / Re-use

Thanks to Direct Energy Deposition technology, a component can be repaired and reused, extending its life cycle.

With additive manufacturing components can be restored to their original performance levels, without the need to produce new parts.

Recycle

Thanks to Powder Bed Fusion technology, a component can be optimised for use (e.g. it can be made fit for operation or lighter) and material not used in the production process can be easily recycled.

This also makes it possible to limit the number of materials used in each assembly, thus expediting the recycling process.
